Quote of the Week:

The badge of Christianity is not an outward sign, not the wearing of a cross or a crown, but it is that which reveals the union of man with God. By the power of His grace manifested in the transformation of character the world is to be convinced that God has sent His Son as its Redeemer. No other influence that can surround the human soul has such power as the influence of an unselfish life. The strongest argument in favor of the gospel is a loving and lovable Christian.  {MH 470.1}

This Sabbath Pastor David will continue his series of message from the Sermon on the Mount. Join us for worship and fellowship.

See you tomorrow,

Mary

Good morning everyone,
We have many reasons to rejoice and praise the Lord.  One that occured just recently was that Kevin Brooks received his Green Card.  Valrie’s is still in process – more documents were required.
There are a number of prayer requests that we don’t want to forget.  Marlene Hawley and her son and family, Pat Bodi’s cousin who has a reoccurance of breast cancer, Ailene Zimmerman and many others…
There is a date change for the student dinner.  It is not this weekend!  Please come next Sabbath the 20th when I will be cooking.
Don’t forget to put the Good Friday Agape Feast on your calendar.  That’s April 2 beginning at 6:00 pm  JoAnn Davidson will be our speaker – both Friday evening and Sabbath morning.
Parking for our church continues to be a challenge.  Please park in the ramp whenever possible. The green cards are valid for Health Supper Club, our Good Friday Agape Feast, as well as Sabbath.  The bagged meters are for our “Senior” members and behind the church are for handicapped members.  If you have a parking ticket from the last Healthy Supper Club please send it to me.
Pastor Shin will be travelling to South Africa on March 31 where he will be speaking at the South Africa campmeeting.  Let’s pray for his ministry and travelling mercies.
Dan Miller will be getting baptized on March 20th at 4:30 pm at the University Church. We praise the Lord for God’s leading in Dan’s life in his quest for truth! Join us as we share in his commitment!

Quote of the Week:
It is impossible for any human mind to exhaust one truth or promise of the Bible. One catches the glory from one point of view, another from another point; yet we can discern only gleamings. The full radiance is beyond our vision. As we contemplate the great things of God’s Word, we look into a fountain that broadens and deepens beneath our gaze. Its breadth and depth pass our knowledge. As we gaze, the vision widens; stretched out before us, we behold a boundless, shoreless sea. Such study has vivifying power. The mind and heart acquire new strength, new life.  {ML 26.2}

This Sabbath Pastor David will continue his series of message from the Sermon on the Mount. Join us for worship and fellowship.
See you tomorrow,
Mary

Good morning,

March is supposed to mean spring.  But as I look out my window there is an awful lot of winter still around!

This note from Zo “What a wonderful day we had last Sabbath! We would like to thank everyone who contributed in the smooth-running of things. We ALL worked together as a team – this is what is called ‘Unity in Diversity’.
First I would like to thank our church family for being so generous in preparing those delicious dishes. We had such a big crowd, but every person got their turn…we even had leftovers!
This year, the planning committee of the African Caribbean Sabbath had a mission: which is to use this program as an evangelistic tool to reach out to our pre-Adventist friends, neighbors, coworkers and family members. And the good Lord heard our prayers – we had visitors from all walks of life. One of our visitors is a very well respected Minister of a Sunday-keeping Church, he came with his whole family! At the end of the day they said they loved every minute of the program and that it was a blessing to worship with us. They indicated they will be visiting us again soon!”

Thanks to Jay Crawford for shoveling the snow around the church early Sabbath morning!
That’s a good example of humility. Thanks Elvy for registering our visitors, in that way we will be able to maintain contact with them and do follow-up. We are thankful to Kevin Brooks for stepping in at the last minute to preach – that’s a true spirit of meekness. We hope Kebede Daka is recovering from the cold, and the Lord will continue to use him in building the church-school in Ethopia.  Wilson Ndovie also gave a special touch to our Bulletin, printed and laminated all the flags of different countries represented in our church ( 22 countries!). Thanks Laura and Jesusa for warming up the food some of our visitors were not even aware that everything was vegetarian! Also Gary Affholter for assisting in the kitchen.  Last but not least, we would like to that every person who was involved in the program from Sabbath school, choir and the afternoon program. God Bless!

The students are leaving on spring break next week.  So the dinner scheduled for our house on the 13th has been postponed until the 20th.

Another thing for your calendar is April 2.  That is the date for our Good Friday Agape Feast.  It will begin at 6 pm.  Mark your calendars now to attend.  JoAnn Davidson will be speaking.

“On Sabbath March 6th the Religious Liberty sermon “Go in the Strength You Have”, presented by Dr. Bruce N. Cameron, and bonus feature “Stand UP for Liberty”, presented by Liberty Magazine Editor Lincoln Steed will be shown by DVD in the Conference Room at 3:30 after the baptism. One attendee will receive a free year’s subscription to Liberty Magazine donated by a church member.  The program will last about one hour.  Let’s all try to remember to support Religious Liberty.

March Vespers at the Lansing churc feature “Certainty of the Second Coming”  with Elder Ed Reid, Stewardship Director of the North American Division of SDA.  They are DVD presentations of his talks at campmeeting.  This week Vespers is at 5:30 pm.

Gary Affholter sent me the following message:  “Spring is here, and so it’s time to get ready for the Spring concert coming up the first week of April.  This will be a late Sabbath afternoon affair.  This is to be a all-congregation effort, so it is open to anyone from the youngest to the oldest.  We need vocalists–solos and groups, instrumentalists–solos and groups, and poetic or scriptural narratives.  Now, don’t sit back and say, ‘I can’t do any of those things,” because we know that our congregation has loads of talent.  If you would like to be part of this concert, please get in touch with Michelle Odinma or Gary Affholter. Our contact information is in the church phone and e-mail list.
We know that we all like our Sabbath afternoon programs.  The vespers last Sabbath from the African-Carribean group was a well received blessing.  We are eager to hear from you so we can plan a wonderful program to praise and honor the Lord. So let’s see what we can do for the Spring concert.”

Pastor David and Tennille would like to thank everyone for their prayers and for the cards of sympathy as we traveled to CA for the funeral of David’s grandmother. She’s resting in Jesus.
Laura Bentley will be baptized on this Sabbath at 2:30 pm after the fellowship meal.    Some of you may know her son Alex Mason – who is the head elder of the Williamston Church. Her story is remarkable – she came to  our evangelistic series at the Williamston church and has made her decision to be baptized.  Praise to the Lord!

Quote of the Week:

You need not go to the ends of the earth for wisdom, for God is near. It is not the capabilities you now possess or ever will have that will give you success. It is that which the Lord can do for you. We need to have far less confidence in what man can do and far more confidence in what God can do for every believing soul. He longs to have you reach after Him by faith. He longs to have you expect great things from Him. He longs to give you understanding in temporal as well as in spiritual matters. He can sharpen the intellect. He can give tact and skill. Put your talents into the work, ask God for wisdom, and it will be given you.  {COL 146.4}

This Sabbath Pastor David will continue his series of message from the Sermon on the Mount.  There will be a fellowship meal this Sabbath after church. Join us for fellowship!

See you tomorrow,
Mary
