Glimpses of Jesus
In my morning devotions, I have been reading from the Desire of Ages – a notable volume on the life of Christ. I’ve been awe struck in absolute wonder at the beauty of Christ’s character. There’s nothing more humbling yet more drawing that a glimpse of Jesus. Paul tells us that “the light of the knowledge of the glory of God is found in the face of Jesus Christ.” He is the ultimate revelation of who God is. Here’s a few of my favorite vignettes from the past few mornings:
“Jesus worked to relieve every case of suffering that He saw. He had little money to give, but He often denied Himself food in order to relieve those who appeared more needy than He.”
“He lived to bless others.”
“His willing hands were ever ready to serve others.”
“He passed by no human being as worthless, but sought to apply the saving remedy to every soul.”
“He was interested in every phase of suffering that came under His notice, and to every sufferer He brought relief…”
“He manifested a patience that nothing could disturb and a truthfulness that would never sacrifice integrity.”
“He did not retaliate when roughly used, but bore insult patiently.”
“At all times and in all places He manifested a loving interest in men, and shed about Him in the light of cheerful piety.”
“He sought no high position and assumed no titles.”
“…He did not strive for worldly greatness, and in even the lowliest position He was content.”
“Jesus did not contend for His rights.”
“He was never so full of worldly care as to have no time or thought for heavenly things.”
“His hours of happiness were found when alone with nature and with God…The early morning often found Him in some secluded place, meditating, searching the Scriptures, or in prayer. From these quiet hours He would return to His home to take up His duties again, and to give an example of patient toil.”
Oh, to be like Jesus.
